Growing indoors in winter

Does it feel familiar? Last year's growing season feels far away. The thermometer shows freezing temperatures and darkness still dominates the hours of the day. The longing to put your fingers in the soil is growing, but it's still too early to start sowing. Then it's perfect to sprout seeds or lentils!

Of course, it is possible to grow tomatoes indoors all year round. Choose a minibus or dwarf tomato, but be prepared for the fact that you will need grow lights. But growing for a large part of the year does not have to mean that you have to spend a lot of time and energy on growing crops with grow lights or that you have to have a greenhouse or growing tunnel.

At Amos and Vilda we grow shoots during the winter months. It is very easy to succeed with and simple to care for. We have four favorites of shoots that we usually grow – pea shoots (yellow peas), sunflower shoots, beetroot shoots and mustard shoots.

It's no more difficult than filling a small pot or dish with soil, adding seeds, watering and placing it in a window. Surprisingly quickly you'll have lots of tasty, nutritious greens to cut.

Try one of these:

Sprouted beets, alfalfa, mung beans, lentils and buckwheat. Grow in a small pot with soil or paper towels - cress, yellow peas, sunflower seeds (with shells). So good to cut over sandwiches, in salads, stir-fry or have as a side dish!
